Meston Reid & Co encourage staff to understand clients' needs and build up good working relationships. Our staff are given responsibility at an early stage and can expect direct involvement, working with senior and experienced people in the team from an early stage in their career. There will always be someone available to give 'on the job' training and support and there will be plenty of opportunity during our numerous social events to help promote team spirit. We encourage staff to develop a good work-life balance.
Our firm
We are authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) to train CA students and are an approved training practice for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). We also take part in the Robert Gordon University placement programme for undergraduates in the Accounting and Finance course.
Placement positions
Meston Reid & Co recruit undergraduates each year, offering them up to 15 months' relevant experience.
We are looking for a long term relationship with our placement students. Providing your work is satisfactory we will register you as a trainee with ICAS and your placement year will be recognised as relevant experience. This means that, as well as obtaining a wide range of hands-on experience in audit, accountancy and taxation with Meston Reid & Co, you will get the opportunity to progress with your professional exams and qualify as a chartered accountant more quickly than students who have not undertaken placement training.
CA students
We also employ graduates to undertake a three year CA training contract during which they will sit their CA examinations. We aim to provide as much support to our staff as possible and, under the terms of our training contracts, we pay for the cost of all classes and exam fees for the first sitting and offer paid study and exam leave. We encourage staff to pass first time, and most do, however we will continue to support a student providing they demonstrate commitment and continue to make genuine attempts at passing their examinations.
ACCA students
ACCA provides an alternative qualification for students who do not wish to undertake a CA training route. At any one time the firm employs some ACCA students who come to us either straight from school, following some form of further education or degree or from other employers where they may have already commenced their ACCA studies. Training is flexible and study is undertaken primarily through the use of home-based study packs. The firm pays for all the educational material, the first sitting of any exam and provides paid study and exam leave.
Ongoing training
We believe it is essential that our technical knowledge is kept up to date, and ensure that all our partners and staff receive ongoing training both in-house and on external courses. This also means complying with the compulsory continuing professional development (CPD) requirements for all our qualified members.
As part of ongoing staff training and through our connection with Nexia International our staff have enjoyed international secondments.
